A horseback ride where we take you towards a small gorge, near the Vilcanota River, in the district of Maras. We will find ourselves close to the 4000 pools, where salt is still collected following the same traditional process that has been used for hundreds of years.

What does this excursion include?
We take you to our ranch in Pichingoto, at the foot of the gorge, near the river, in the farmer community of Pichingoto. After some instruction, we will leave to ride the horses along an ancient Incan commercial path that will take us to the salt mines.

In less than an hour we will be able to visit the impressive salt mines of Maras, where we can observe how the local people extract the salt. Their technique has been passed down from generation to generation from pre-Incan times: they release underground salt waters, which are then distributed into miles of pools that facilitate the evaporation of water and eventually obtain the salt.

The scenery, the people, the salt mines and the horse ride will make for an unforgettable experience.

After we return from riding, by the same path, we will arrive at our point of departure where we will have a box lunch. From there we will be met by the transportation that will take you back to your lodging.

This journey can take place anywhere between 8 AM and 3 PM.
